Language

Dinner at the Highland Center is served family-style. You sit with other lodgers, and invariably compare the day’s hikes, notes about the weather, and abject surprise that anyone in their right mind would drive to NH from Iowa for three days of hiking.

Anyway, last night we were talking with the guy next to us, and C punctuated the conversation with a well-placed “holy crap!” I felt the need to exert some amount of parental control, and reminded him that “holy crap” wasn’t exactly table language. I shot him a look that said ahem–yes, you and I use it all the time, but that’s one of those Dad only words. Other grownups don’t think that’s so cute coming out of relatively small mouths.

The guy next to me laughed it off, though. And, changing the subject as quickly as I could, I asked him what he did for a living.

“Professor of Theology at Harvard Divinity School.”

Holy crap.
